So I trained with the other students that specialized in designated marksmanship (also known as sniper training.) I’ve attended two acclaimed tactical training schools: Gunsite in AZ & Front Sight in NV. However, to my utter surprise, the teachers informed me that I had an aptitude for long range precision shooting. My marksmanship scores were good with every gun I fired in the course. We were taught deescalation, proportionate force and the criteria for the use of lethal force. Through a friend of a friend I was permitted to audit the firearms training portion of the Austin Police Department’s SWAT training program. I have cerebral palsy and chronic pain, and guns are, to quote Samuel Colt, "the great equalizer." I decided that I wanted a gun of my own, both to use for target shooting and for self defense. I supported the Second Amendment even before a friend took me to the range and I discovered that I really enjoyed shooting a 9mm pistol at targets and according to my friend and the staff at the range, I was pretty good for a newbie. I wasn't anti gun, I simply was indifferent about firearms. I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of firearms.
